MY WHY
I've Watched This Disorder Steal Women's Lives. It Doesn't Have To.
I want to tell you about my dear friend Jen. She called herself a "momster." Every month, she felt it coming. The rage, the despair, the feeling of being locked in a cage inside her own body. The people around her couldn't understand why she couldn't just "deal." She felt alone, misunderstood, and completely out of control.
And then, as suddenly as it came, it lifted. But before she could even catch her breath, it was starting all over again.
I also know this feeling personally. Not from PMDD, but from living in survival mode. The snapping. The rage that came out of nowhere. Yelling at the people I loved most and not being able to stop myself. I knew that wasn't me. But I felt completely powerless to change it.
I used to give myself pep talks at night about how I would have more patience the next day. I'd tell myself I would be better tomorrow. And within the first five minutes of my feet hitting the ground, something would set me off. Or even worse, I'd wake up already irritated for no reason. I'd snap and yell and it would feel like Groundhog Day all over again.
I knew I was reacting because everything made me feel on edge. I knew it wasn't anyone else's fault. But it was like I couldn't stop myself. And then I'd feel nothing but guilt and shame after.
When I found the right support for my stress system, everything changed. My relationships healed. I became the wife and mom I always wanted to be. And Jen? She told me she finally felt like she'd been let out of a cage. She didn't even know her cycle had started.
That's what's possible. And I want it for you too.
